Evolution of Panchayati Raj:

-Balwant Rai Mehta Committee proposed a 3 tier Panchayati Raj.

-Ashok Mehta Committee proposed a 2 tier Panchayati Raj.

-Rao and Singhvi Committee proposed Constitutional Recognition.

-It came into force on 24 April 1993, by the Constitutional (73rd Amendment) Act 1992.

-Tenure of any Panchayat is 5 years.

-In case of dissolution of Panchayat before completion of 5 years fresh election must be held with in six months.

-Minimum age for contesting Panchayat election is 21 years.

-The elections are conducted by State Election Commission.
