National Human Rights Commission of India:

-The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India is a statutory body established on 12 October 1993.

-The NHRC consists of a chairman and four members.

-The chairman should be a retired chief justice of India.

-One Member should be a serving or retired Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

-One Member should be a serving or retired the Chief Justice of a High Court.

-Two Members to be appointed having knowledge of practical experience with respect to human rights.

-In addition to this NHRC has four ex-officio members-

--The Chairpersons of the National Commission for Minorities,

--The Chairpersons of the National Commission for the Scheduled Castes,

--The Chairpersons of the National Commission for the Scheduled Tribes, and

--The Chairpersons of the National Commission for Women.

The chairman and members of NHRC hold the office for a term of five years or until they attain the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.

After their tenure, the chairman and members are not eligible for further employment under the central or a state govt.
