Second Buddhist Council
Second Buddhist Council:
-Held in 383 B.C. 100 years after the demise of Buddh.
-Held at Vaisali under the presidentship of Sabakami, convened by King Kalasoka.
-Objective was to end the controversy between Monks of Vaisali and Patliputra and the monks of Kausambi and Avanti.
-It led to the division of Buddhist Sangha into orthodox 'Sthaviravadins' (or Theravadins) and the unorthodox Mahasanghika.
