GANDHARA SCHOOL OF ART
Gandhara School of Art:
-Flourished from 1st Century B.C. to 5th Century A.D. in the Gandhara region & received its greatest patronage from Kanishka.
-Associated with Mahayana Buddhism.
-It has a strong Greek influence.
-Also called Greco - Buddhist School.
-It was initially inspired by Hellenistic features.
-Remains found in Taxila & Sites in Afghanistan & North - Western India.
-Mostly found in black stone & the statues were represented in thick drapeny with large & bold fold lines.
