- The Jan Shree Bima Yojana (JBY) was launched in August 10, 2000. The Scheme had replaced Social Security Group Insurance Scheme (SSGIS) and Rural Group Life Insurance Scheme (RGLIS). 45 occupational groups were covered under this scheme.
- The Scheme provided for an insurance cover of Rs. 30,000 on natural death. On death/total permanent disability due to accident, the benefit is Rs. 75,000.
- On partial permanent disability due to accident, the benefit is Rs. 37,500.
- The premium for the scheme was Rs. 200 per member per annum, 50 per cent of which was met out of Social Security Fund.
- The balance premium was to be borne by the member and/or Nodal Agency.
- Janashree Bima Yojana has now been merged with the Aam Admi Bima Yojana (AABY) to provide better administration of life insurance cover to the economically backward sections of society.
