Million Wells Scheme (MWS)

- During 1988-89. Million Wells Scheme was started as a sub-plan of NREPIRLEGP in order to provide open irrigation wells free of cost to the poor belonging to the schedule caste/schedule tribe, to marginal and small farmers and to freed bondedlabours.
- Since April 1,1989 this plan was continued under Jawahar Rozgar Yojana, but during 1995-96 it was given an independent status.
- MWS was funded by the centre and states in the ratio of 80 : 20. It also lost its existence at present as it has been merged with Swama Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana w.e f. April 1, 1999.
